Testimonial — Tammy and Kevin Jandreau
Tammy and Kevin Jandreau have been foster parents for 14 years and with Community Care for the past 5 years after having transferred from another agency. Over the period of time they have been fostering with Community Care they have opened their hearts and home to three children, and prior to transferring to Community Care had adopted one child who they fostered prior to adopting. When asked what their greatest joy is in being a foster parent, their response was simple and heartfelt, “To see them happy and watching them grow.” When describing the stressors they experience as foster parents, Tammy and Kevin’s love for children were evident, “When they all have a bad day on the same day and when we don’t meet their needs every day. What helps is sitting down with them on the couch and snuggling them and just being with them. There have been times when we have needed extra help. They (the staff of Community Care) have offered a ton of support – it is a big plus. They have been there when we needed extra help. They have been there to help with training including providing childcare during training which is hard to find. We have 4 kids and are always running in different directions every day for them. Care staff are always there to help out and are always happy when we call or when they show up. When we call them for emergencies, they are always there. We can’t say enough good things.”
When asked what they would share for advice with others who are considering becoming foster parents they offered words of wisdom, “You have to have love, but you also need patience. You need to open your heart and your door and realize that it will not always be happy times –there will be sad times and struggles. But it is well worth doing because you get to see their growth and experience their happiness. It might be the littlest thing ….the smallest success….and they just light up.”
